I obtained my PhD in Library and Information Science from Western University, Canada. I was an academic librarian at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria for eight years. I had a bachelors degree in Mathematics and a master’s degree in Information Science.
My doctoral thesis proposes methods for weighting direct and indirect citations based on citation context similarities; unique citations are allocated more weights. Direct citations are weighted based on the uniqueness of the contexts of their citation mentions, therefore citations with single mentions are ignored. Indirect citations are weighted based on the amount of knowledge that flows from a publication to its nth generation citation.
My research areas are quantitative science, natural language processing (NLP), citation analysis, communication patterns, and scientometrics. I am interested in understanding the structure of science in Africa and the influence of the global powers in her scientific development. I am also interested in the development of human language technologies for African languages, which are low-resource and under-represented languages in the information age.
