Kate Johnson has recently retired from the Faculty of Information & Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario where she taught for many years. Her PhD is from the University of Toronto where her dissertation examined how social capital affects the information behaviour of urban Mongolians. Her main area of research since then has been the relationship between social capital and public libraries. Lately she has become interested in the management of electronic resources after teaching a course on the subject. Her interest in Big Deals and how librarians make decisions about unbundling these large ejournal packages grew out of this course.
